Salicylic acid removes sebum that blocks the pores. Benzoyl peroxide unblocks the hair follicles by removing the layer of dead skin cells that often trap sebum inside the pores, and removing the sebum as well.

Benzoyl peroxide is categorized as mild bleach which means it contains antiseptic properties that can kill bacteria before they are growing.

Keep in mind that the concentration of benzoyl peroxide in over-the-counter remedies may different from one another. Some medicine may contain 2.5% benzoyl peroxide, some may contain 5% benzoyl peroxide, and the rest may contain 10% benzoyl peroxide.

Always start treatment with the least strength of benzoyl peroxide which is 2.5%. The higher concentration the remedies have, the more possible it can irritate your skins.

So, start from the least strength, and let your skins get used to the effects of the remedies. Doctor’s treatment Over-the-counter remedies usually need times to show their effects. You should be patience applying the remedies for at least two months.
